Bone-Dry

Yes, the pipeline of brand-new friends
Now empty, with years passing by
Nary a drop from the spigot
Out there in the well, it’s bone-dry!

Luckily, we’ve made friends when young
We stuck with them through thick and thin
All through the rough times and the good
Brotherhood far stronger than kin

In our twilight years, friends been lost
With goodbyes intense grief we’ve suffered
Our circles continue to shrink
For most of us, days are numbered

In days to come, we’ll bid farewells
Until it’s time for us to go
Heavens forbid we’ll be the last
Survivor’s guilt, full of sorrow

How we wish we have newer friends
Younger by two decades or so!
We should go out, and seek them out
Those who’ll still be here tomorrow

Alas the old wells are bone dry
New wells we must seek right away
With divining rods and great hopes
For we have dragons left to slay
