Scott Ransopher

untitled

Lemon tasting baby dreams
Like so many days spent in Reading, or Yardley
Muggy restlessness of summer
Watching Kung Fu
Or eating
The time Carey fell off the bed
Or the bees that never went away
There is no sweeter sleep
Than that of memory.

It was raining when she started school—
Darker then the night before
They sang hallelujahs and
Recited the Pledge of Allegiance
Which she still does not understand.

She supposes this poem is only to herself
To remember things that,
Like deep colors,
Fade with time.
