I know of a country,
That shines above the tallest buildings and the highest mountains,
I know of a country that did the unthinkable,
A coup with no blood shed,
I know of a country
That had a coup where a sitting president was treated like a sitting a president with dignity and respect,
I know of a country,
Where the old and the young came together from all walks of life with their differences set aside,
I know of a country,
That policed themselves and marched in the streets in solidarity with a simple wish that was rooted and justified from many years of suffering,
I know of a country,
That wished for a new day, and a new leadership with a new perspective,
I know of a country,
That went through severe poverty, social and economic injustice,
I know of a country,
That had every reason to pick up guns and redefine their future,
But they didn’t. They couldn’t!
For that’s not who they are.
I know of a country,
That is so peaceful, so loving, and so full of class.
I know of a country,
That defines resilience better than a rubber band,
I know of a country
That went to a bank to withdraw their own hard earned money and there was no money in the bank,
I know of a country
That was and is so educated and full of natural resources, and yet there are NO jobs for its own people,
I know of a country,
That wasn’t paid for their work, and the rich got richer at the expense of the poor.
I know of a country,
That had no healthcare infrastructure to take care of its own people when in need.
I know of a country,
That loves and welcomes all people from different nations, ethnic and religious backgrounds,
I know of a country
With the people I will forever admire, the people of Zimbabwe.
