Through the Ages

Through the Ages

I awoke this morning in my cave.  That orange sphere in the sky arose from the horizon and started its westward journey.  The leader of the tribe made some strange noises with his mouth as he kept pointing to his spear.  That one particular sound meant “fish.” Then he grabbed his spear and walked out of the cave.  I followed after him.  Later on we spotted a big trout in the stream.  Then we caught many more before returning back home.  We threw them on the fire and made a delicious meal with the berries we had picked along the way.  After our stomachs were full, we went to sleep.
After we woke up, we went to work. We were having a difficult time carrying the wheat from the fields, because it took too long.  One of the men from the tribe learned how to make a circular pattern from the wood that he bound together.  He called it a “wheel.” He put an axle in the middle and fastened it to some other wood and called it a wagon.  It made the job much easier, because we could carry more wheat in a shorter period of time; thus, it became less of a burden.
After I woke up from my sleep, someone was running through the streets shouting, “The son of God has been born in Bethlehem.”  “Who is God?” I asked myself.  Is he the leader of some tribe?  Why is this man so important?  Can I go to meet him?”  Latter on I met a Christian who told me that God is the creator of life on earth.  The only way I can meet him is to learn all about him so I can feel his presence.  After my long day, I was confused, so I grew tired and went to sleep.
When I woke up, there was someone riding through the streets of Boston shouting, “The British are coming, the British are coming!”  I knew something was going to happen, because the British couldn’t control us any longer.  We were fed up with their desire to keep ruling us when they didn’t know what our needs were.  They lived so far away from us, how could they know?  After the fighting was over that day, I was exhausted, so I climbed into bed and went to sleep.
When I woke up, I went downstairs and turned on the television.  I was the first one in the neighborhood to own one, so I had plenty of company at my house.  My friends finally got a chance to see what was going on instead of just hearing about it.  We saw the World Series games between the Cleveland Indians and the New York Giants.  The Indians won!  We all were tired from all the celebration, so my friends went to their homes, and I went to bed.
When I woke up, everything on earth was destroyed, except for a few of us.  In the Far East, where life was born, life had ended.  Humanity, from its greed and aggressive nature, destroyed itself.  Nobody heeded the advice of the Almighty to lay down their arms and follow his commands.  All through my life, when some of us were doing things to make life better, the others were plotting to wage wars.
As I woke up from my sleep, I found myself in a peaceful village where everyone was happy, hardworking, generous, and kind.  The Apocalypse had prepared the way for some of us to finally live in peace.  Hallelujah!
