Glass and Checkerboard, by Juan Gris

A Time of Duty

One time in the life of a veteran
to be proud of what he had done,
even though he thinks of himself
as being worthless and unproductive,
was when he served in the armed forces,
his time of duty,
the most proud moment in his life.

He has reason to believe he is always
worthy and an integral part of
the welfare of his country
and should be honored for it.

I wrote this for the Belt and Beyond newspaper, Veterans Day issue.
