The Severing

The severing of the ties with England
As the people rose and took a stand.
No more British rule from so far away
And mandatory laws that they must obey.
If they don’t know as to what their needs are
They shouldn’t impose their rules from afar.

After much resistance, they finally relented.
The Thirteen Colonies became independent.
The signing of the Declaration of Independence
Held true from that day on and every day hence.
July fourth 1776 we severed all ties with Great Britian
Then so we all honored the words that were written.

I wrote this for the Belt and Beyond
