The Jungle, by Wifredo Lam
Robert L. Martin

The Adrenalin Beast

Lovely, deadly beast with ten horns
drifting in the holy air made unholy,
out of the fields of Gomorrah
with tentacles reaching
around the sun
and into the hearts of the
children of the busy earth,
the citizens of the new order,
running through their glands
in sweet oils from the
sweat of the whores,
pleasuring the walls of the belly,
the core of the epicenter
of the spiritless made spirited,
the arousal of the new life,

the invitation from the
adrenal beast
to the scene of the tragedy,
the mortal glamour
where the agony of the afflicted
becomes the ecstasy
of the onlooker,
the pleasuring of the loins,
the new spirit with its
velvet wings lifting us into space,
into the hell of the heavens,
the realm of the beast,

ah-h, the glory of the new spirit,
the heartener of the heart,
the waterfall of the waters,
the thunder of the quiet skies,
the blood of the bloodless,
the pounding of the passion,
the glory of the spirit of the beast,
the hidden demon that lives inside us
clawing at the walls to run outside
and run, run, run for evermore – –
