Sad and Forsaken

“Little Christmas tree, so sad and forsaken,
Alone and crying for not being taken,
You’re too little this time and too unsteady,
While the others are all cut down and ready,
Next time when you’re big and strong,
You’ll be in a home where you belong.

In the forest where you belong this year,
You must sit out the hours and persevere,
Weathering the storms and frigid nights
Until you are chosen and adorned with lights.
You’ll stand proud in a home somewhere,
In front of smiling faces and Christmas fare.
Don’t cry little tree. Your day will come.”
