The Arrival of Spring in Woldgate, East Yorkshire in 2011, by David Hockney
Robert L. Martin

Metalic Leaves

Metalic leaves, the voices of the singing wind
the soft tapping of  percussive melodies within
Nature’s choir nestled inside the swaying Birches
like metalic hymns flowing through saintly churches

a lullaby of the soft spoken zephyrs
flowing from their primal ancient ancestors
the secrets of the wind passed down in rhythm
to the swaying leaves in a proud  discipline

Metalic leaves, wind chimes of the mystic forest
of the rattling of the Birches in full chorus
psalms of the sacred wind in their singing
melodies of a spiritual nature in their bringing

the song of the winds revealed in its soft tapping
‘til the finale with the nymphs of the forest clapping
a grand performance of the metalic leaves
as Mother Wind on her earthly mission oversees
upon her swooping down among the forest trees
