Eternal Man

Eternal Man was there as the first man was dusting off the ashes from his body, and as he looked around the garden, bewildered and lonely. Then a woman appeared and they started a family. Some of his children were belligerent and some were peaceful. He could see what transpired throughout their lives, because he was the Eternal Man.
Some were envious of the others, killed them, and took their possessions. Some with highly intelligent minds invented weapons that could kill millions of people. Some were peaceful and built civilizations that were ultimately destroyed by the belligerent ones.
He saw religions formed by all the people fighting over what they believed to be the truth. Since they invented religion, they did not know what the absolute truth was.
He saw people worshiping false idols who led them to their death. He saw leaders, dissatisfied with the present regime, organizing coups to overthrow those in power. Then the new regime would ultimately be overthrown by another coup. Then he saw the ultimate nuclear holocaust in which everyone was annihilated.
Eternal Man had seen enough throughout the ages. What could have been a peaceful world was ruined by those who were dissatisfied with what they had. They were endowed with beautiful minds, but used them instead to devise ways to take what didn’t belong to them, and to use their power to force their beliefs onto others. The nature of mankind is aggressive, but the mind is capable of using that aggression to build and maintain civilization, and not to destroy it.
