There was this guy in the news

A take on the Dewani case - a case as ridiculous as the rhyme I tried to maintain

There was this guy in the news
He was sad and blue
His bride, murdered on their honeymoon
Not where, in Gugulethu
He was so hurt, it made him coo coo
But then the suspects said he paid for the crime
He said he paid for a surprise helicopter ride
So off he went to Britain for a long, long time
Almost four years later, he was back in SA to stand trial
All this time, still looking like he’s lost his mind
The evidence, in court, presented
This guy seemed tormented
But the state’s case seemed deflated
Court adjourned and the judge deliberated
Court resumed and he was acquitted
The non legal minds, with dropped jaws
Displayed un-camouflaged disgust at the law
This guy is walking out the door
No case against him and he never stood in court
A three million plus, state funded flaw
Do not despair, what follows next are true miracles
The, once coo coo guy, found all of his marbles
With his acquittal returned all of his senses
Celebrations followed; there was a clank of glasses
Before he flew back to Britain, in first class

The poem looks at the honeymoon murder case of Anni Dewani - who was murdered on her honeymoon in 2010. Her husband Shren, was accused of being the mastermind behind the crime. He was acquitted on 08/12/2014
