Maria Beth Ventura

Mercedes

A Tale of Rebirth
By M.B.V

When I will leave this town,
When the sun will shine,
I will bask in the Dawn,
By La Jolla Shores.

By then,
When Maria has succumbed,
Washed ashore by the tides of the sea,
Mercedes will drink in her defeat,
Adorned by the foam, she reigns eternally.

I will wander by Prospect Street,
In a sleek dress from its boutiques,
With my kohl-lined eyes, red lips
You will see me swirl in pure bliss,
Wavy hair wavering, in a soft sheen.

By then,
When Maria has vanished,
Washed ashore by the tides of the sea,
Mercedes will prosper,
Adorned by the foam, she reigns eternally.

I will stand beneath the palm trees,
Grazing the shimmering droplets on the grass.
By Cuvier Park, I will feel the cold breeze,
Libertine and poised as the Brown Pelicans,
Soaring unbound, preying on her, naïve.

By then,
When Maria has drowned,
Washed ashore by the tides of the sea,
Mercedes will surge,
Adorned by the foam, she reigns eternally.

The hot sand will crush her small size,
Her tomb, adorned with the sea glass,
In shades of green, blue and turquoise,
Ornated with sacred datura petals,
I will relish in the Virgin’s demise.

By then,
In the glory of this rebirth,
Where Past is buried and Future promised,
There will only be Mercedes.
