There are those who
Lost and loveless,
Wander wastelands
Created by
Restlessness,
Aimlessness,
And they,
All the same,
Mistake their follies,
Their follies, their fears and their pain
For a daylight
That cuts the darkness,
Or for protection:
For armor, shiny and new
To cover themselves
Under daylight
Of their own making.
They haven’t the foresight
To notice or to be aware
That their armor
Is just illusions:
How can you see any sky
When a blindfold covers your eyes?
But these people
Lost and loveless
Wander wastelands
Created by
Trauma, and horror, and strife
Of their own making.
But they don’t see it.
They don’t notice
The paths that they’re too scared to tread.
Then these people
Filled with sadness,
Filled with longing,
Filled with such a longing to be loved
Go outside
In the real world
Where we all live,
But their eyes are unseeing;
Their eyes are still covered up.
So they never notice
That all of their fears
Come from within them.
No, they could never exist.
But they’re scared,
So scared and lonely.
And it’s easier
To attack than to look within.
There are those who
Seek the sunlight
To fight the shadows,
To chase all the darkness away.
But how can they
See the daylight
When they’re all hiding?
When blindfolds cover their eyes?
If pain is hard,
And revenge is easy,
Then what of goodness?
How can anything ever grow
In the sunlight?
In endless sunlight?
We need the darkness
Because darkness brings all the rain
That paints the sky
And waters gardens
And fills the seas
To wash all the pain away.
We need darkness
Not just sunlight
To be more than
What we all were yesterday.
Look around you.
Take off the blindfold.
Take in the real world:
The sky, and the stars and the rain.
Then look inside
Deep inside you
And you will realize
It’s not so bad after all.
