Kids

Watch out, the kids are waking from the nightmares in their beds and
They are marching through the streets without knowing what’s up ahead.
Someone stop them before they go out and live out their own lives:
They all just want to matter without knowing what that means yet.

Nostalgic for an adolescence that they’ll never have,
They can’t wait for their first lovers to incise their hearts in half.
They can’t wait for heartbreak to make sad songs meaningful to them,
But all those tearful lyrics will become their epithets.

How much blood is gonna spill from veins that wanted to be known
For the love they have inside instead the accidents they show?
Yeah just hide behind a bottle, or a needle or a knife
Because living is so easy when all you do is forget.

When you’re young you are invincible, you’re never gonna die;
When the world is full of gods you don’t need to see eye to eye.
But beneath infallibility, you’re just a little kid.
Whatever. Hey think I can fly? How much you wanna bet?

A lot of them are still alive, and some are moms and dads,
And their callouses are thick enough to cover up their past.
Now they all have kids of their own who are starting to wake up.
Let them sleep in, they have no idea how bad it’s going to get.
