Musings

I contend with the intentions of my reflection
I debate morality with the ghost of my integrity

Lost in the cycle of life and death
Found in the rhyme of reason and logic

I was a man of substance
But I had no depth nor value

I was an intellect of great renown
But now drown in the musings of a broken mind

In old age despair welcomes me with her cold embrace
But I remember when joy was the lover of my youth

Can a man ever truly know his purpose
Or are we to wallow in a world with no recourse

I miss the youth who loved life,
the one who saw hope through strife,
Even in darkness he spoke truth,
and changed lives with his mirth.

And so we end the journey
& ask whether it was worthwhile,
All the love, hate, sadness and happiness,
That is my life of musings...

reflecting on the life I live as opposed to the one I lived
