Little girl, with tired eyes
Nowhere to go, nowhere in sight
Mom’s busy, arguing over food
Dad’s gone, child’s aloof
Mom’s on drugs
That is clear
What about the little girl
What of her future
How will this girl
So surrounded yet so alone
Make a place in this world
She can’t, I know
I want to help her, make it better
Instead I watch in silence, praying for her
Would she know
How wrong this is?
Would she do better
For her kids?
She’s too young to know about these things
Maybe only 6
She looks happy to be there
If only she knew what I know
If only she saw what was in front of her
Maybe then I would know
I could know that she’d be ok
If she understood, she’d be the change
If she knew, she’d focus on school
Focus on life, get out of there
She doesn’t know yet
But I know she will
She will because she has to
She has to because in my mind, she breaks the cycle
