The Calling of St.Noah

or a revelation

I used to know you
draped over my back
you first gripped me
a glorious shroud of warmth.

By surprise, you wrapped your arms around my neck.
Made me a believer.
Your head to the base of my shoulders
ever since then, there have been glimpses
My obedient ghost

You came to me an apparition in the searing light
On that bed in the spring
Your marks skipped along our bodies
With the cicadas and the grasshoppers
Howling across the fen evergreen

They told us to pray and we did
Hiding across sheets
Focusing on the breath
Making treaties
To continue our concord

Again, you sent angels
Blue spirit returns.
Adherent you were
To eventually lift your eyes to mine

Shortly you possessed me
Singing the sacred songs
Traveling miles crossing state-lines
A pilgrimage of my faith

Returning from my journey
The flowers dimmed and hazed
You commanded a mysterious bloom contradictory
to Their nature.
The winter didn’t stand a chance.

I called you out one night
In that temple, in your name coated with Tyrian
where its walls soon to hollow.
The reflection of the steeple, the hum of the ministry,
and the pedagogy of monks all went silent.

You said just beyond there is an ark
Stray the flood and you will find me.
