Silent like the night, you went to fight our war;
Never did you question, or ask what it was for.
It wasn’t for the glory, or even a piece of the pie;
But yet you were willing to serve, or maybe even die.
How can we repay a debt, when you’ve asked for nothing in return;
Some might even say, that is the lesson we should learn.
And so on this day, I thank you with this pen;
For who you are today, and all that you did then.
