I Am
An open letter to President-elect Donald Trump
I am the face of the oppressed
The marginalized
The downtrodden
A person
With dreams and aspirations
Abilities and strengths
Yet you mocked me
When one is mocked
We all are mocked
Because united we stand
Or did you forget that
We are not BS
Not the Broken States
But the US
The United States
Because together
We are more
Just ask Lincoln
I wonder what you won’t do though
Whom you won’t mock
Just to get the approval
Of the masses for being “real”
Do you even feel remorse
Disconnecting with those
You don’t connect with
Is easy because you’re
“Very successful”
Remember
You think that just because
Our differences look a little
Different from yours we are
Less
Your money
Your power
It means nothing
If you don’t love
I am neither attacking
Nor condemning
I understand that you are
A person
Thus endowed to say what you feel
But you’re going to be
President now,
And I can only hope
That the words you spoke
Were some kind of ruse
I hope that you changed
For our sake
And for theirs
