On a warm spring day
Energized by a new job
Tired from balancing motherhood and work
I stepped in shit
At first, I let it linger
A natural substance
Warming my shoe
And my feet are always cold
But it served its purpose
Time came to wipe the shoe clean
So I soaked
And scrubbed
Used a toothbrush to clean
The grooves of the soul
Of my shoe
And the next day
I wore my shoes
Sparkly and clean
But as I lifted my head
To smell the spring air
I detected a terrible stench
Wafting from the bottom
Of my shoe
I lifted my foot
To inspect
I couldn’t see even a speck of shit
But the smell remained
So I threw my shoes away
Afterwards,
I wore old shoes
I bought new shoes
I purged my shoe tree
'Til only the coolest shoes remained
(Thank God I am never without)
But after all that effort
I must admit
Despite, and maybe even because of
The dog shit
I miss my stinkin’ shoe!!!
