The Skaters

The Skaters

Nothing is less of the earth
than couples skating:
the woman in her white raiment
clean, clean, and full of light,
the gleaming satin bottom,
swelled by the twin globes of her dainty rear,
and the strip, white as throat of an egret,
defined as an arrow,
between her smooth and vibrant thighs,
her body purified, beatified
by the cold shield of ice
over the earthly dross.

She makes long, lingering curves
under the hands of her suppliant partner,
whose every gesture is a tribute -
a tribute to the woman
lifted now high above his head,
lifted with touches holier
than kisses pressed upon a cross.
