The Sick Child, by Edvard Munch
Francis Aparici

The Gall of it All...

Dedicated to those
who have suffered
from Gall Stones...
It is not fun...

In a fetal position
I lay on the floor
In excruciating pain
I never felt before…

Pain, none can assuage,
Pulsating, throbbing
Just under my rib cage
Noon to early evening

And all I was doing
Eating a small salad,
The olive oil dressing
Didn’t know it was bad!

For the fat in the oil
Drove my gall bladder
Berserk; pumping bile
The stones made it madder

My bladder kept throbbing
Till I couldn’t stand!
On the floor, I was lying
My wits I can’t command!

I understand that the modern procedure is less painful, and requires less incision and shorter confinement. Had mine in 1984
