Blame the Apple

Tossed at a banquet,
I gleamed gold among the gods—
“For the fairest one,”
But no one told me which queen
Should be crowned and called supreme

Three goddesses fought,
Snatching, bickering, and mad
Then came foolish Paris—
Aphrodite won his bliss
And the world is wrecked for this

Now Troy is burning,
war rages, heroes have died...
All because of me!
Next time, eat the apple fast,
Or else the city won’t last!

At the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, Eris, the goddess of discord, was not invited. Furious, she threw a golden apple inscribed “For the Fairest” among the guests. Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite all claimed it. To settle the dispute, Zeus chose Paris, prince of Troy, to decide.

Each goddess offered him a bribe: Hera promised power, Athena offered wisdom and victory, and Aphrodite promised the love of the most beautiful woman, Helen of Sparta. Paris chose Aphrodite, leading to Helen’s abduction and the start of the Trojan War.

A single apple—chaos unleashed!
