There once ambled a man by love betrayed,
His heart imprisoned, spirit now dismayed.
From wealth to want his fortunes gravely fell,
A solitary soul in life’s cruel spell.
Betwixt the boughs of dreams his heart did stray,
A captive lost in love’s bewildering sway.
His wretched plight a tragic tale to bear,
All hope extinguished, swallowed by despair.
The man he once knew, vibrant and bold,
Now dwindled, broken, his story left untold.
A mournful figure, wanderer forlorn,
With love as tyrant, he was left to mourn.
