Day Dreamer
The cursor flickered tauntingly
Softly as a flame
And the rain that pittered on the sill
Was none-the-less to blame
For it drew the eyes and with the ears
Upon they rested long
Till all the drops were conjugate -
The trickle now a song.
Voices deep and nautical,
From what appeared a ship
Rode along the sea of glass
Threatening to tip.
Yet that would be an error
For the water not so clear,
But plain enough as to reveal
Those creatures lurking near.
There was no time for warning
For two droplets in a rush
Neck and neck went racing by
Till splitting ran amok.
Progress lost and gained again
One took then the lead
Avoiding friends along the track
Continued quick to bleed.
Who finished first? I cannot say
For the track began to blur
Quicker than the steward cried -
“You’ll get your winnings, sir!”
For now it was a window
In which appeared two eyes
Glancing back upon the clock
Ten minutes had passed by.
The ticking hand, not of the clock
But screen still blaring white
With a sigh was much despaired
To be staying late tonight...
