You Are Missed

For Paul

Brother,

It feels like it has been ages since we talked... I cannot get the memory of us washing each other’s feet out of my mind...

Life is still confusing... even more so since you’ve been gone... I am still trying to walk the path we found before you went home... I still believe... but am saddened by your absence... The way you left... such heartache for me... but proud of the way you heeded the call...

Our Lord taught us that where our treasure is...  there our heart would be also... You protected your treasure like no man I have ever known...

It hurts to remember but I will not forget...

Today dear Brother I must confess... I cannot measure up and am feeling overwhelmed... A part of my heart is gone... and I know... I will not get it back... until I find my way back home... where we can all be together again...

Until then dear Brother...

You are missed...

For my Brother who was murdered by his teenage daughter and two boys...

the daughter and one of the boys wanted to be together and Paul and his wife would not allow it...

the two boys with the daughters help snuck into the house... into their bedroom where they were sleeping... and stabbed Paul and his wife over 20x each...

Paul was able to fight back... to chase the boys out of the house before collapsing in the yard and finally dying...

He protected his wife... his treasure... till the end... she was able to pull through and survived... but she has never been the same...

the three kids are in prison and still trying to make their way through life... as are the families of all involved... and our small community

as for my brother...

Paul...

He is missed to this day...

Very touching poem Cory, I'm sorry for your loss of your brother

Thank you brother :)
He began and ended with PASSION... A life worth living :)

Wow Cory, that's a terrible loss. Good to hear such a tribute.....:)

.....also Cory, a quick message to thank you for helping me stay sane over the past 8 weeks of working night shifts.I've so enjoyed discovering and reading everyone's poems and also exchanging comments.I am now back to normal 'day-life' and I'm unsure how much time I will have to keep up with my Poeticous buddies but I will be logging in as often as poss to continue enjoying your work and also writing as much as I can when the urge arises...Lastly did you see the news this morning about Dennis Rodman being best mates with Kim Jong Il........ isn't life just one big comedy.......!!'stiltskin..../....roger........:)

He lived an AMAZING life :)

I feel the same way about you brother! I'm following you so I definitely will catch all your amazing works :) So glad you signed up.Rodman... that may be pretty awesome... a person needs new experiences... he has had a shelteted life over there... Rodman made a career out of rebounds (in many ways)Look at it this way... a country and leader that are militant and have a history of hating the U.S. and haven't always treated the lower class in their country very well... now he is friends with a westerner who grew up in the U.S. as a lower class citizen through hustle and hard work bettered his situation... and he is now a trusted confidant of a leader who was taught someone like Rodman wasn't worth the air he breathed... its a win win and if I was KJ I could think of few people better to open my eyes...Very good situation ;)

Makes the way we use the term "brother" around here seem weightless.....

I know what I am saying when I call you brother :)

I'm so sorry for your loss,Cory.Such a tragic story,so shocking. You're very brave to write such great piece. I'm sure, wherever your brother is,he has read and appreciates it.

Thanks brother :)
Not brave just very appreciative and I miss him...A life lived well :)

Well put brother!

Such a tragic loss, the method so brutal and cruel as to defy imagination. I too have suffered loss, and in this we are together, and in this our lives are scarred. You miss your brother and I miss my son....

Yes it was beyond mortal foresight... tragic and cruel... we will see them again someday brother :)

I wish i have a word to put in for this great piece. Such a tragic... I'm sorry for your loss, Paul is rested peacefully in heaven, and i'm sure he's very grateful to have you as a brother.

Thank you :)

I'm so sad to hear what happened. How long ago was that? I guess you sure miss him. What a tragic way to leave this earth.

so sad... this was a tragic event for you and your loved ones... so sorry for your loss.

Thank you sister poet

Sorry brother just seeing this now. It seems a lifetime ago.

That was so tragic...But at least the memory of your brother lives on, in the verses you have written, and in the minds of those who have read them. My condolences, late as it is...

Thank you brother

Very disheartening story. My uncle was murdered. It is hard knowing. I'd much rather know a loved one died peacefully, without pain. He was a taxi driver and was shot and killed by a young teen. He was my uncle Joe(Joseph). I named my first son after him. I lost that baby as a result of an infection and premature birth. One thing I've learned is that once you have experienced something tragic you feel you are all alone in the beginning, then you learn of others who went through it too. Then you feel you are not quite as alone as you thought. Strange how our trials connect us that way. In a good way. Although the tragedy itself was not good.

Thank you sister poet. Sorry for your loss. So tragic. They sound precious. It would be poetic if the Josephs were there to escort you when its time. They will know all the best hangouts :) For me it was definitely an eye opener to how fragile life is and how fleeting... Grief was a confusing thing but the richness of relationships and their importance vs the day to day was an important lesson. No one is replaceable
