The Woman in Black

The Woman in Black

She is the woman in black
A virtuoso with a poker face.
Her instrument is the violin.
It has a high level of emotion.
With a wide range from joy to sorrow.
But she keeps her feelings hidden.
Like a mother protecting her young.
Her violin is red symbolizing passion.
But she wears black representing mystery.
She cradles her instrument as if it were her baby.
She caresses it with her bow.
Teasing notes out of it like teaching a child to speak.
Notes lift into the air.
She listens to the spaces in between them.
Like the void between her thoughts.
Until music and mind become one.

This is an archetypal poem about an actual person.
