Cayley McCloskey

October 15th

I’m not sure if you were the biggest fan of Coldplay or not

But I listen as the cars drive by, and my lingering headache says

“Do you remember what tomorrow is?”

Well, tomorrow is the rest of our lives honey.

Except, our with a space between ou and r

Doesn’t exactly look right, but is necessary

Just because something is necessary doesn’t mean

It doesn’t hurt.

I see your reflection in a cup of coffee

Hear your laugh echo in the room

Wear our memories like an oversized sweater,

That I am passing along to another man to borrow.

I smile to myself and think

“Gone, but not forgotten”

Today is not bitter darling,

But the start of something new.

My heart has felt anger but has reformed

Into something, better.

Like a cup of black coffee with a drizzle of honey,

There is sweetness in the impermanence of this date.

Today, this day is for mourning.

But soon it will be the date of dinner with my best friend,

The wedding anniversary for my neighbors,

My child’s imaginary tea party.

But most importantly,

Just an ordinary day.

Sparks- Coldplay!
