Ice Storm

April 3, 2014

Like wax layers creating a hand dipped candle,
The cold Spring rain is coating the branches of the bushes and trees.
Thin at first, then thicker with each falling drop of rain.
Leaving behind a coating of ice candy
When the sun shines
Rainbows will dance like fairies of old
In the prismatic coating left behind
The rain stops falling and the temperature rises
Aided by the blowing wind
The trees shake off the icy coat left by the storm
Faster than leaves in Autumn
Like darts from a blow gun
The icy glass shards
Are sent to the ground below

(2014)

we had an ice storm one morning and I was watching the ice build up on the plants and trees. Then it was gone....
