The Cleverest Thief

2005

Today I took a train to a place faraway
So faraway I never saw a familiar face again
I was happier now than I was back then
It’s hard taking something never earned
Something taken but not stolen
Because I gave it to you so readily
But it’s only a crime when it’s proven
Today I took a plane some place new
And I felt the energy from close within
Close around me like a prison cell
And now I feel like mistaken to sleep where I fell
Based on a lie that i now have to sell
A scent takes me somewhere familiar and that surreal tunnel takes me back again.
I never wanted to stay here anyway
Im more unhappy now than I was back then.

Shockingly so.
It’s funny how your poems start having cycle meanings .. meaning they make sense more as you grow or they make sense In a new chapter than when written .. compounding on themselves without you having a clue when you wrote them that they’d mean more one day.... It really is from long ago.. I went to Chicago and wrote it as a freshman as if I understood it haha I just added the last part .. I feel it sounds off with that stanza but it’s what I’ve found on 2 copies now.. it is kinda fascinating how it can mirror modern feelings. But it truly was written by a 14 yr old.
