The Italian Woman, by Henri Matisse

REMEMBER

Dedicated to Georgia

Remember the night
we took your mother’s car
and drove over the skyway bridge?
The moon was a bright light
to show the way.

On we drove
into the countryside
to an inviting pasture,
looking for adventure.

Little did we know
as we climbed over a fence,
a bull was watching,
he chased us
and we barely leaped,
back over the fence.

Driving back at dawn,
the bay below the bridge,
reflected the pink and
orange hues of sunrise.

I never dreamed,
a few years later,
I would never see you again,
your life over at twenty.

Oh my dear friend,
life is too serious now,
how I miss your laughter
and our daring escapades!

In honor of Georgia who would have been 60, March 9th.
3-9-17.
