COLORADO

Spine of this landscape; this mountain
Bathed in hot September sun
Live with lizards
They let her join them for a bask.
She sits and savors this
Solitude and silence
Watching the hills march
West to the sea,
Like clouds their greyness
Fills the horizon.
The valley below full of
Soft music from
Tumbling streams and
A circling eagle.
A black and silver serpent
Strikes at her bare foot
And misses.
