Dora The Cordoban, by Julio Romero de Torres
Robert L. Martin

The Bar

The bar up in the highest highlands
where perfection earned its keep
with its gold medals glistening in the sun
and its feet entrenched in pride,
the pride of wisdom earned
by humility employed,
sitting on its unreachable seat
at the foot of the Almighty
where artists reach and fail
and compromise perfection
for their best,

their bar that they set for themselves,
the humanly attainable bar,
their perfection accomplished,
their own highest highland,
a place that others can reach.

Perfection is still the highest,
out of reach for human  thought,
but a dream placed inside of him
to will him to reach his potential
and be aware that there is
always a higher bar
set above him
that he must find and reach for.
