Scene from A Midsummer Night's Dream, by John Simmons
Robert L. Martin

Song of the Angels

Harps of soft velvet and cushioned melodies
of scarlet sunrises and ambrosial reveilles

a soft stroking with fingers dipped in honey
the proper ingredients in a euphonic recipe

of beauty and its embodiment in poetic rhyme
a smooth riding on clouds sublime

a probe into deep fields and to the beyond
echos of harmonic tones to the maestro’s baton

melodic tears falling upon sympathetic strings
lullabies in rhythm as heaven sings

tapping of the rains in a hypnotic pulse
dancing round and round to a swirling waltz

heaven’s language floating in the melodic air
a sacred pilgrimage to an earnest  prayer

song so sweet and song so hallowed
purifying the air as the melodies flow

falling through space and riding up the spine
climbing into the heart in a timeless time

a song on a mission to soothe the spirit
that relaxes the anxiety bit by bit

oh sweet music of therapeutic mysteries
nursing the soul as the wizard oversees

as the angels play on their magic harps
and the music flows in to flood the hearts
