The Flight, by Frederic Remington
Robert L. Martin

Internal Powder Kegs

Internal powder kegs,
aggression packed up inside
ready to explode as it
claws at the walls to come out
and be heard,

inspirators of the good and the bad,
the youth of today and yesterday,
eternal man with eternal feelings,
voices of the power inside
urging him on to build the
cities and then tear them down,
always on the move,

the epitome of aggression
before old age settles in
and calms him down,

old age, the jettison of
the powder kegs and
the healer of the
recklessness that is
the nature of eternal youth.
