Hylas and the Nymphs, by John William Waterhouse
Robert L. Martin

Blessed Desiring

Blessed life and the longing for itself,
The birthing and a deeply yearning felt,

The moving stream inside Nature’s child,
Of pleasure’s delight and running wild.

Passion speaks in a warm and lusty voice
As the heaven inside comes down to rejoice.

The ways of nature dominate the senses
As the stirring in the hidden cave commences.

And abundant are the fruits in yonder valleys,
As life gives unto life as God oversees.

The harvest moves from the roots to the table
As prognosticated at the sacred tabernacle,

Of blessed beginnings and documents of yore,
Where life began and moved on before.

As the spirit of God hovered o’er the waters,
The desiring began for all the Earth’s daughters.
