Tension

This moment fleeting beneath our feet,
tasted briefly as the salt on our tongues,
stares that feel as long as dark streets
littered with trash gnawed by rats
and remnants of songs never to be sung

The shadows creep in the pools of
muddled, stagnant tears of gods
Passed by, by passersby above
where souls are moistened by the encounter,
dried and crinkled by their fraud

This mirror that cast a glimmering glow,
trapping unwitting boys and girls within
their eyes, where they hide pity and woe;
capturing them in a cowardly snare,
is never blamed of committing sin

Hallways dimly lit and claustrophobic,
leading on, leading into many others
Crawling with the fears of the arachnophobic,
lie in the darkened  corners of their minds, while
running away, they leave baffled brothers behind

The stillness of the placid summer lake,
like the moonlit ice glowing blue
in the winter, waiting to come to, to awake
It waits patiently to be corrupted and disturbed
by the struggles of the bodies it’s due
