Leighann Hall

Empty

The white hands of the ocean grab me
They want to help wash away the pain
The hands cleanse me and
My sandy foot prints are washed away
The hands will take me to freedom

Gone-All of me is gone
My soul and body have been washed away
No longer do I have to fake a smile
I am just free

My earth-bonding chains have broken
I am now just part of the sea
The waves pull me under and under
It’s a whole new world down here
I am just free

But it’s black and dark down here
Cold and cruel
The lightless depths of this black pit have killed everything around me
No longer do I feel relief
I am just empty

(2013)

The girl in poem doesn't understand the price of being free from her pain and her world.
