Woods
Joseph Ambrosino
Into the barren leaves
Dressing the soil
Into the pollen topped
Thimble and mulch
Away from sinking ships
Where the anchors display
Away from sorority chants
Away from false angels
And their grips on heaven
Away from envy, anger, competition
You are now falling.
To the private place where
No one hides
Where everything is visible
Bones, skin, flesh
Marred by sunlight
Chastened by the birds call
Watched over
by the honest blue sky
All stop to see you
A child!
Born to live
Under sunshine and rain
So much so,
it may confuse you
Whatever path you choose
In these great and mighty woods
Mature well,
Love grandly,
Eat with ferocity,
Leave all but nothing behind
