Touch his face, she did lovingly
Though his cheeks rough with scraggly beard
She gazed at him fondly adoringly
But from her eyes lonely tears appeared
She caressed his frigid and bony hands
Rubbing gently his empty ring finger
Weeks ago slipped out his wedding band
As his dread malady continues to linger
Close to her heart she keeps the ring
In a necklace he gave her many moons ago
Hoping he puts it on again; her heart will sing
If only, if only: she prays it will be so!
