Mutually Unrequited
Scented love notes he penned for his best friend
Hidden in a book he returned to her
Alas, o’er the years remained unopened
That he adores her, she found out never!
Then high school ended and life intervened
Their paths diverged, he ne’er saw her again
She achieved the success she never dreamed
Foreign shores he went, away from the pain
Years later, book she found in the attic
Betwixt the pages letter handwritten
Tears welled and for hours she couldn’t speak
For in her youth, she was likewise smitten
There’s nothing to do, but let it all go
And burn the letter before tomorrow!
