Blue Snow, the Battery, by George Wesley Bellows

**Solitary Shadow**

When but a shadow lingers lone,
Upon this earthly realm’s expanse,
A whisper echoes through the stone,
A solitary dance.

The sun has set, the stars alight,
Yet still, the shadow stands in wait,
A silent sentry in the night,
A guardian at fate’s gate.

It watches over slumbering dreams,
As darkness veils the waking world,
Protecting thoughts, dispelling gleams,
Its presence never unfurled.

But as the dawn begins to break,
The shadow fades, its purpose spent,
And in its wake, a soul awake,
Its spirit newly lent.

So let the solitary shadow dance,
Upon this mortal sphere we tread,
For in its presence, we find a trance,
A moment’s peace, a respite spread.
