blackouts

70's

a burgeoning fear than gnawed upon heartbeats
shadows descend in corners like spiders to flies,
amplified sounds snap in your ears as if explosions
and every movement espied is where a monster lies.

footsteps pacing and candles being lit and waved
a fuse box still in hiding from last nights dark,
the rolling blackouts of the 1970's shout and parade
atmospheric excitement that left a heavy mark.

(2014)

a poem about me going through an electrical blackout in the 70's, as a small child.
