The Ghost of a Lost Cause
From a life that is left to die in the cold,
who lingers a story never to be told,
A story so gray, full of sadness and shame
and the pain that fills me when it uses my name.
I wiped my own tears and buried my sorrow,
And prayed I won’t remember tomorrow
A stranger to the girl I knew yesterday
But a friend to the woman that I am today.
Now she is gone, nothing more than a ghost
And I stand here with pride, no longer her host
Her soul burned with sins that 8th of November
As these years pass by, she will not be remembered.

This poem was written to remind myself that I am not the person that I used to be. The girl, the ghost, the story are all one unit and represent the former "me". The 8th of November was the day was married, the day my life changed forever.
