A Game of Tag

You’re it!

She stood.
So did he
the room swirling.
She was laughing.
He was laughing.
So was I.

She moved.
He followed.
He lunged.
He missed.
She ran.
He chased.
She was good
Running. Dodging.

Then
he tagged her
hard
across her face.
I ran.
I hid.

He left.
Guilty. Ashamed.
I was found.
She asked,
why didn’t you make him stop?
I didn’t know.
I just said, sorry
again and
again.

Today.
Guilty. Ashamed.
I can say,
mum
I was afraid.
