I have haikus in my veins
I have verses in my soul
A thousand rhymes in my head
Write them! my elusive goal
With eyes closed; I visualize
Fiery sunset I just saw
Red images flood my mind
With words! a picture I’ll draw
***
Crimson sun slowly setting
From perfect haven up high
To rest behind wooded hills
Bid day goodbye with a sigh
Then clouds of many colors
Illumine the sky above
Lovely yet fleeting vision
Of our Lord’s unending love
A hawk soars against the breeze
Its shape a stark silhouette
In the radiantly lit sky
The twilight’s awesome vignette
The wind picks up, clouds gather
Tangerines turn to purples
Crimson clouds to midnight blues
Fallen leaves float in circles
Night flexes its tender grip
Gray shadows cloak the meadow
While crickets welcome the dark
Fireflies light the afterglow
***
A near perfect end of day
Forever stamped in my mind
Hoping my poem did justice
And my weary eyes not blind!
