At Summer’s End

In the middle of winter, I dream of summer days...

Alas! it’s September; it’s summer’s end

Sad farewell to hot days and sultry nights

Goodbye to flowered shorts and linen whites

Gone the sunny beaches; my erstwhile friend!

Autumn’s here, sadly! there’s fences to mend

In my strange world, in between stolen bites

Gordian knots dragging us down from the heights

Fast, down the slope precariously descend!

At summer’s end, our fantasies conclude

Life’s realities,  humdrum existence

Awaits all of us; our problems intrude

Summer joys; faint mirage in the distance!

As the cold autumn breeze brings solitude

Preparing us for a long winter trance!
