She would say she was married but single
Spending most of the time alone
While he was away always working
Barely getting a call on the phone
She trusted him too much it seems
And never worried about his days away
But she didnt know it was hurting
Not having her husband to stay
Her unacknowledged loneliness
Added to her heavy heart
Learning not to miss him
Is what saved her from the start
She spent more time waiting
Or hoping for his return
Only to be disappointed
Another lesson she had to learn.
For when he came home
It wasnt for long,
He had many friends to see
Singing his happy song
So again hes gone
Because he hasnt much time
Before he heads out again
And hes always on a dime
And she grows a little sadder
Sinks a little lower still
He doesn’t even notice
And she knows he never will
And he was always single
But married
