THE ART OF FORGETTING

Far too many nights witnessed her captivity.
No longer does she dwell in the space she once called hers.
She is just another house with an unwelcomed guest—
Trying not to arouse you for fear of further damage.
Keeping peace sacrifices private property.
As long as she struggles for what is rightfully hers,
She nobly defends her soul.
Weakened, she abandons her flag, leaving her empty-handed.
No longer can she be held in such close quarters.
She resigns as her captor, position eliminated.
Accept her surrender and deceive your triumph.
Do so quickly, for its lifespan is fading.
Defeat is victory in its rawest stage—
