Mother Haven

Mother haven, shelter from the storms,
a security vault with sinewy feathered walls,
with tears flowing from the windows
and sentries posted at the delicate gates,
fighters for the impending ravagers,
standing by the manicured gardens
and the fragile life that grows from them
as her arms that encircle them,
holding them to her bosom,
her island of milk and comfort,

mother haven of courage and tender kisses,
eternal matriarchs in the test of time,
born from the sacred garden
and sainted by the highest priest,

teachers of love and kindness
and emissaries of those
virtues until the end,

her with an eye that sees the unseen
from the depth of her heart
as she stays connected to her child
and never breaks the bond,
being a haven and a place called home,
as she was created to do and ever will be.
